The day started well, and all rallied around to get the final chapters of the packing saga completed. We left the Trullo at about 10:45, then spent the next 20 minutes carefully negotiating our precious load down some very awkward lanes. If it helps, think of the title sequence of the original Postman Pat, and how he drives around the welsh lanes with barely a hairs width of space either side, well that was us....and backwards too!
This bit was the easy bit. Acres of space here. Clare guided me carefully through all the challenges and all I had to do was get the vehicle out without running her over.
We then went to say our goodbyes to two people whom over the past few weeks have become very good friends. Sue and Klaus have been the most fantastic neighbours to us. It has all been a bit one way in the respect that whenever we had a problem or needed help, they were always the first port of call. We will miss their regular input! It took a while to say "Arrivederci" though as Jasper and Maya had to say goodbye to the three dogs and seven cats I think it was.....as well as Sue and Klaus. Thankyou Sue and Klaus! You have been wonderfully kind and helpful. It's been a pleasure to become acquainted with you! We do hope to see you again one day.
And then onwards. The wind was blowing an absolute hoolie of an "Arrivederci" as we wound our way down a familiar road to Monopoli.
The sea had a real wildness about it and you could see from this far out, the white tops cresting out at sea, so not ideal in a high sided vehicle.
After a shopping trip and top up of diesel we then set about reacquainting ourselves with traveling life. In many ways it felt good; getting moving, going somewhere, seeing new things, new places, looking at maps etc. But it also felt hard; the difficulty of the visual onslaught of seeing so much new stuff each day when you have been accustomed to the same scenes, the return to some good old poor quality Italian roads, and generally trying to get the whole thing up and running again.
I suppose the conclusion here is, we are glad to be moving again. We are apprehensive about the next bits, but the photo below says it all. If we were ever in doubt about this being the right thing, the enthusiasm shown below when we arrived at our home for the night, and were eventually "let loose", the fun was there, the beach combing began, the manic collecting of objects that all had stories to be told or things to be made with, began again.
Buon Viaggio!
