The benefit of hindsight is always a good way to measure the quality of what has gone before. And so it stands, I am here uploading another million and one photographs from our most recent 'city break' and even though only a few hours old, I see things now that I didn't see when we were there. Quite ridiculous really, although I suppose there is an element of sensory overload and the small issue of child care that act as buffers and stop the brain from really deciphering what it is seeing.
A case in point is the amazing Plaza de Espana. It was our first venture after getting off the public transport. A difficult thing to explain, a large crescent shaped building with offices and important stuff going on inside, sweeping around sculpted water gardens, canopied walkways and tiled walls. It's the walls that I now see something I didn't see when I was there. The tiles are quite something, but seeing the photos, I now realise that the tiles are quite spectacular. The colours are so vivid, the way they combine with the ornamental pottery, stairways seating etc is really very special.
And so this continues as I look back on the pictures of the cathedral, the tapas we ate (yes we photographed the food), the back streets of the Barro de Santa Cruz, the Metropol Parasol and the Plaza de Toros.
As the words come out here and now, all I can hope is that the hindsight serves to deliver such memories with such vivid reality as and when we return.
In the meantime, a splendid day was had by all of us. Seville was superb. The only problem being was the distinct lack of breakfast confiture!
