When we arrived here yesterday this campsite seemed rather run down and dowdy. We had just been on a rather fabulous 4* site in France where the on-site owners were diligent about the presentation, cleanliness, and hygiene and their campsite in general. The showers were spotlessly clean, the colourful tiles were new and fresh, the sinks were new, hot water ran freely. The site had boundaries marked by hydrangea bushes between pitches. And the river running by us, where Jasper and Maya played for hours damming the stream, all so picturesque (but what an annoying sound in the middle of the night when you needed a wee!!!).
Here on a category 2 site in Spain, there are no pitch boundaries, it's a general free for all, there are merely inches between us and our neighbours on either side, the showers last night were allegedly cold, the lights were on timers as well as the water, the signs all around warn us to take care of our belongings as the site will not be held responsible for personal loss. We wondered if it was worth staying!!! It seems a bit prison like!
And yet today, after a good night's sleep we woke and in the cold light of day, things didn't seem so bad. The shower I had was hot, and though I had to step over a man hole cover to get into the shower (I kid you not!) and the tiles were broken and cracked, overall it did the job. I guess that's part of the problem with what we are doing. As we change sites and locations so much, we always have something fresh in our minds to compare each site to. And maybe sometimes that's not always fair.
Que sera, sera; whatever will be, will be!
